Kristjana Stefánsdóttir to perform at INLNA Convention in Edmonton

Due to unforeseen circumstances,  Kristjana Stefánsdóttir and Daniel Helgason are unable to perform at the INLNA Convention or take part in the International Visits Program. Although this is disappointing to many, alternate entertainment is being pursued for the Convention and the IVP program is working on another visitor to tour INLNA Clubs.

The ICCE apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause for Convention attendees.

The Icelandic Canadian Club of Edmonton is very pleased to announce that Kristjana Stefánsdóttir  (Cancelled)

will be performing at the 99th Annual INLNA Convention in Edmonton. Kristjana has been one of the leading artists in the Icelandic Jazz scene for years. She is also an Award winning composer for theatre. She records as a soloist and as a guest performer as well as making regular appearances in theatre, radio, television and in concerts. She has been nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards and the Icelandic Theatre Awards several times. In 2017, she won the National Icelandic Theatre Awards “Gríman” in the category Music of the Year for The Blue Planet/Blái hnötturinn, competing against Grammy Nominee Bryce Dessner and the artist Ragnar Kjartansson.

Her music can be described as ambitious indie pop rock with influences of jazz, soul and dream pop, topped with subtle, dreamy electronics. She has collaborated with artists such as Svavar Knútur, Ragga Gröndal, Glen Hansard, Emiliana Torrini, Sigtryggur Baldursson (The Sugarcubes) and Jazz Virtuoses such as Eythor Gunnarsson (Mezzoforte), Lars Janson, Drew Gress and John Hollenbeck.

At the Convention Kristjana will be accompanied on guitar by her colleague Daníel Helgason. (Cancelled)

Daniel is a guitar player and a composer; he graduated from The Icelandic Academy of the Arts with a degree in Composition. Despite his young age he has been very active in the Icelandic music scene the last years. He has worked and written music for theatre and dance theatre and performed for films and documentaries, for example the Icelandic films Humarsúpa innifalin (Lobster soup included) and Sægreifinn (The Count of the Sea).

He is a steady member of the bands Robert the Roommate and DÓH-Trio. He is also a member of Fearless Warriors of the Roseland, an international band/music project with members from Iceland, Ecuador, Finland and Estonia, with guest members from India, Sweden and Costa Rica. Daniel has recorded and performed with some of Iceland’s finest artists including; Rósa Guðrún, SJS Big Band, Skúli mennski, Una Stef, Útidúr, Sigríður Thorlacius, Sigtryggur Baldursson (Bogomil Font), Egill Ólafsson and, of course, Kristjana Stefánsdóttir.

They will join us during the Convention as guests of the ICCE and will perform at the INLNA Awards Ceremony on the evening of Friday, April 27, 2018. At the conclusion of the Convention, Kristjana and Daníel will continue their visit to North America touring as this year’s International Visitors Program (IVP). More information on IVP will be forthcoming from the INLNA.
